5 Fandom Friday: The Beginning

5 Fandom Friday: The Beginning

I was starting to get myself in some semblance of order to regularly blog last year when I was in a pretty awful car wreck in my 2010 Mini Cooper. I was at a stop due to construction on I-4 in Orlando, on my way home from a wonderful day at Universal Studios with some out-of-town friends, and was rear-ended by a girl going 70 mph. I was able to walk away with no broken bones or wounds, but I've been in recovery from soft tissue damage and whiplash ever since. Needless to say, my grand plan to start blogging regularly was sidelined due to my recovery, which included (and in some cases still includes) a severe lack of concentration, a subtle case of PTSD, 3x a week visits to physical therapy, insurance claims, amongst other car accident related dealings and normal, every day responsibilities. I'm much better now than I was immediately after the accident, but still have to take it easy with my back. One too many go-hard-or-go-home days in a row, and I'm in need of a few rest days to follow.

That said, I bet you're wondering what 5 Fandom Friday is in the title. It all started with this awesome group that I came across on Google+ called Female Geek Bloggers. I found it through my friend, Elly, who also geekily blogs over at Philly Geek Girl. The founder of this eclectic gathering place for geeky women bloggers started 5 Fandom Fridays on her blog, and with another geeky blogger - Super Space Chick, back in 2014.

I want to start conquering it because I feel like having a weekly task to blog is a good way to get me back into the swing of writing. About five years, or more, ago, I was writing for a geek/gaming website until it went defunct. I was pretty crushed by its closing and the founder moving onto other things, as that action took the wind out of many of our staff's sails. In the aftermath, I was working on finishing my Bachelor's and got to the point, as I did with my reading, of just needing a break. That break turned into a few years, and well, here we are. So I think it's important to find a way to ease myself back into the habit, hence 5 Fandom Fridays.

I'll probably be doing this a bit different than the other bloggers who currently conquer it. There's quite a back log of pretty great topics that I'd like to consider, and some current upcoming topics that just don't appeal to me. So I'll be trying to conquer the current week's link up if possible or applicable, and if not just going for it with some brain storming that I've already done on previous ones.
